............

Let's take a step backwards before I put the heads on I degreed the cam in "straight up" at this point.

............

I cleaned all of the Comp Pro Magnum 1.52 (7/16 stud) full roller rocker arms and laid them out and then.....

............

After I had the heads on and torqued down I installed them.

............

I pulled the springs off of the number 1 intake and exhaust and using lighter springs and an adjustable push rod checked.....

............

.......... for the correct pushrod length. I ended up at .100 over stock and had Tony order some 7.300 inch hardened pushrods to work with the guide plates.

............

About this time I decided I'd better paint the block. Tony had painted the inside as part of his machine work and prep. He had also run all the holes with a tap.

............

Well it is starting to look like an engine.

............

I installed the Proform 2 piece......................

............

.............. timing cover and ATI pointer. I wanted a two piece cover, but didn't want to spend the really big bucks on one. I was a little worried if this one would leak at the joint between the two pieces, but so far it hasn't and I've been happy with it.

............

Next came the ATI damper. I looked at the instructions and they said that it has to be honed out for the crank snout you are using. It comes undersized. This meant a trip back over to Colorado to Tony's with the damper and my micrometer set to my crank snout diameter. Tony made some passes on the hone and gave it back to me and said it was good to go. I had my doubts, but after the 80 mile trip back home it went on and felt just right using the damper installer I have.

............

Next I installed the fel-pro intake gaskets and used silicone across the lifter valley and .............

............

.............. installed the manifold that Hooley had sent me. I wanted to keep the Weiand manifold I had been using on the motor I pulled out of the truck to keep crap out of it. Hooley had this 2 plane GM swap meet manifold and sent it to me, but it didn't look like this. Someone had painted it and it was full of crap. I cleaned it the best I could and on a trip to Cortez I took it with me and used Tony's cleaner and bead blaster to freshen it up. Looks good now and no Hooley you can't have it back.
